Picture perfect beaches in Colombia

A trek through the trees lead us to a series of magical beaches led us to the most picturesque beach I had ever seen, El Cabo San Juan de Guia.

Tayrona National Park is on the Caribbean coast in Colombia, north east of Santa Marta.

The first day involved a walk through the forest to Arrecefes, it was a lovely beach but was too dangerous to swim at. But being there in such a cool park was exciting enough. I remember thinking it looked like a great location for dinosaurs to come out of the trees like were in Jurassic Park.

We slept in hammocks which I had never done before, but I slept surprisingly well. The next day involved following the coast through more beautiful beaches, leading us to El Cabo San Juan de Guia. This beach is stunning, very photogenic. You could stay on the little rocky area between the two beaches, but I thought it might be a bit noisy with the waves.

It was quite a good set up with a hut, half lined up with hammocks and the other half, a restaurant. I was relieved I was down the end of the hut which didn’t have a leak in the roof which wasn’t great for those who were sleeping under it when it rained.

Day trips arrived via boat which isn’t great, but with a beach so beautiful you can imaging that it is popular.

What I remember from my time there is sitting in the shallows of the eastern beaches of El Cabo, the sand was glittering like gold as it must have had mica in it. It was magical.
