When packing for beach holidays, or even going to the beach locally, I make sure I take my long or short sleeved rash shirt to keep the chill off. Even at tropical locations you can be in deep water and chilly currents come through and so you can stay in the water longer, or get in easier. I have been known to wear two.  And they are great for helping prevent sunburn.
