Uruguay wasn’t somewhere I expected to find lovely beaches, but Punta del Diablo was a gorgeous little town, just south of the border with Brazil.
After visiting distant relations in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, I caught the bus down to Punta del Diablo. It was adorable. A small fishing and seaside town, it had a lovely feel to it. It is where the city folk have their holiday homes and tourists come from afar to enjoy it’s beauty.
The beach has a lot of character, with boats parked up on the beach, rocks scattered around and wonderful swimming spots.
A short walk over the northern side of the beach leads to another beautiful sandy beach and to the south is a beach with huge sand dunes, also worth exploring.
Punta del Este is another popular location on this coast but totally different. Tall apartment buildings and a huge marina. I chose to go to Punta del Diablo as I thought it would have more character, and it did.
If you are in the area, make the effort to go there, it is a great place to visit and I hope that it doesn’t develop too much.
